The Moscow Mule, a classic cocktail designed with Ginger Beer with vodka (the moscow part of the cocktail!) This recipe brings together three flavors into one classic. So here you go, the classic Moscow Mule for your enjoyment!
The recipe:
2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Lime Juice
3 oz. Ginger Beer
History:
the Moscow Mule originated in the late 30s/early 40s when Smirnoff was bought by an American, John Martin. Capitalizing on the then-popular Mamie Taylor, John teamed up with Cock ‘n Bull pub owner Jack Morgan, who had a well-known house ginger beer used for making Mamie Taylors. The traditional service is in a copper mug, to make it easily identifiable, and the common garnish is the lime wedge.
The Mule served to introduce vodka to the American public.
Vodka quickly surpassed gin as the preferred white spirit in North America. After introducing vodka to the American market, the drink fell off the map with the formation of the beginning of the Cold War and the Second Red Scare. It was at this time that light rum would become fashionable, leading to the rise of the Cuba Libre in America.
